Every thought deserves a second draft.

Most ideas are written once and never seen again. Sprintnotes brings yours back, so you can revisit them, rework them and refine them until you know exactly what you think.

For macOS. Works offline, no account needed.

One note in focus, a quote, with other notes drifting around it as they come back.
I

Start rough.

A good thought rarely arrives finished. Write it the moment it shows up, from any app on your Mac, half a sentence if that is all there is. Getting it down should cost you nothing.

Words, links, quotes and pictures all land in the same quiet place, ready to come back when you are.

A single blank card with one line being typed.
II

Your thoughts come back to you.

Sprintnotes turns your notes over, one at a time, at an unhurried pace. There is no inbox to clear and nothing is ever overdue. Each return is an invitation to look again.

Revisit
Meet an old thought with fresh eyes. Most of what you write is never read again; here it comes back on its own.
Redevelop
Add what you’ve learned since. A note grows a little each time it passes through your hands.
Reforge
Test it against what pushes back. Keep what holds, rewrite what doesn’t.
Refine
Say it plainly enough that it would make sense to someone else. That is usually when it finally makes sense to you.

Keep a note in the rotation, let it rest for a while, or let it go. You decide what stays in front of you.

III

From a hunch to something you can stand behind.

Clarity is not a single moment of insight. It is what a thought becomes when you keep coming back to it. Here is one note, over a few weeks.

  1. CaughtMonday

dinners better when crowded?? something about the chairs

  2. RevisitedTwo weeks later

The best dinners I remember had one table too few. Everyone sat closer than planned.

  3. ReworkedA month on

Closeness can’t be scheduled, but it can be made likely. Invite one more person than fits.

  4. ClearToday

Make room scarce and people make room for each other.

Each time a note returns, Sprintnotes asks it one gentle question: what are you saying, where do you fit, what pushes back, would a stranger understand you? You answer when you're ready.

IV

A body of thinking that is yours.

Over months, scattered notes settle into something larger: a library of ideas you have tested and kept, arranged the way you see them.

A library of note cards of different sizes, arranged in columns.
  • You know what you thinkIdeas you have returned to are ideas you can explain, defend and use.
  • Nothing good gets lostThe half-thought from a walk in March is still there, and still coming back.
  • Your ideas meet each otherNotes link up as you write, so one thought leads to the next instead of sitting alone.

The Long Table

Every dinner I remember had one table too few, so everyone sat closer than planned. The talk got better as the chairs ran out1.

Ana’s rule: invite one more person than fits.

Friday, then — borrow the bench from Garden shedand keep the menu short…

  • Ask Ana for the long bench
  • Bake two loaves
  • Write the toast
1Probably true of meetings too.
V

A beautiful place to think.

Your notes are set like the pages of a well-made book, with room in the margin for second thoughts. Writing somewhere this calm makes you want to come back, and coming back is the whole idea.

Asides, footnotes, to-dos and links to your other notes all live in the text, and step out of the way when you are just reading.

Writing it down is quick. Everything after is slow on purpose, so the thoughts worth keeping have time to become clear.

Who is Sprintnotes for?
Anyone who has more ideas than time to think them through: writers, researchers, founders, students, the curious. If you keep notes and rarely read them again, it was made for you.
Will it nag me?
No. Nothing is ever due, there is no backlog to clear and no streak to keep. Your notes simply come round again, and you choose which ones stay in front of you.
What happens to a note I'm done with?
Let it rest and it stops coming back but stays in your library. Let it go and it leaves, with an undo if you change your mind.
Do I need an account?
No. Without one, every note stays on your Mac and works offline. Sign in when you want your notes synced.
Is it a Mac app?
Yes. It's built for macOS, and a shortcut lets you catch a thought from whatever app you're in without leaving it.
